Names of plants or flowers for a Ruby Wedding anniversary?

There must be a few plants with "ruby" in the name, do you know of anything that would make a great 40th anniversary present? I've found a rose bush online but just thinkg about other options and have no idea about plants generally. Any suggestions much appreciated!

  1. The rose bush, Ruby, may be what you have found, and has great flowers. Otherwise, there are quite a few plants that also have Ruby as part of their name, but they're more garden plants than flowers, if you were thinking of giving a bouquet, Lovely plants include Magnolia 'Ruby' - you can view it, and some info here- http://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/plants.cfm?pl_id=2785 , a lovely Heather - http://www.shootgardening.co.uk/plant/erica-carnea- Erica carnea 'Myretoun Ruby', one of the Gleditsias with reddened foliage - GLEDITSIA triacanthos 'Rubylace', http://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/plants.cfm?pl_id=2010&fromplants=pl%5Fid%3D2007, and a lovely Camellia: 'Aarons Ruby' , see it here - http://www.hortic.com/ics/product/11383/1 A ruby wedding anniversary is such a special one, and a good lasting plant would be a great way to celebrate this. Out of all of these, Roses are generally loved by everyone, need an annual prune to maintain them, so are not too demanding, so would be a good choice. Otherwise, Camellias are great end of winter flowering plants that need a good moist location, with acidic soil, though can be supplemented with an acidic feed if the soil's not acidic. I love them, and they're otherwise trouble free. The Magnolia will grow to a large shrub, is stunning in spring time, and needs no real care. Take a look at each plant, and see what you feel is special and may be suited to their location and comfortable effort level as well as, perhaps, their gardening expertise. Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
  2. there is one that is called rubylittle is a calla lily; however, the color is dark pink or lavender. there are red calla lilies like http://www.flowerexplosion.com/by-flower/callas/standard-calla-lily/red-calla-lilies.html that is a ruby color. I think the calla lilies will look great as a present because they are not as common as roses (they are a good idea too).
