Is it wrong to give my girlfriend flowers on my birthday?

I bought my girlfriend flowers on my birthday (not her birthday). I thought it would be accepted as a sweet gesture for someone I love and thought she would be happily surprised...I was wrong...So please let me know your opinion

1. if you are giving a girl flowers, make sure it is an important date to her. yes your bday is important, but not one which calls for you giving her flowers. i can see why she wasn't happily surprised!
